Daniel Gies
PHOTOGRAPHER AND DIRECTOR

Back in the glorious (now-trending) 1980s, I was born right into the heart of Silicon Valley with an Atari joystick in one hand and a fistful of Lego blocks in the other. This grew into a foundation of problem-solving via manipulation of visual elements and further encouraged my obsession with precision and consistency. Nerd.

I was eventually drawn to photography, fascinated with the concept of manipulating photons to create imagery. Something of a conflicting-yet-complimentary relationship of science and art. This, combined with my eye for uncompromising and highly self-critical perfection, has evolved into a knack for solving creative problems for clients with a camera.

Since graduating from Brooks Institute, I made my home in the San Francisco, then relocated to New York but, continue to work bicoastally on a wide variety of projects; from interior/architecture, to product/cosmetics/conceptual work that explores materials to bend the mind… I will always do what I can to push imagery as far into the weird end of the spectrum as I can.

Likes: danish furniture, pixel art, crashing motorcycles, toasty kotatsu, RPGs, Scandinavia, brutalism, Japan, minimalist lifestyle, science experiments, ‘80s anime, hygge, concrete floors, and getting weird.

Dislikes: Getting ice cream on my knuckles.
